Building Condition Assessments – Toronto Public Library

Cion Corp. was retained by the Toronto Public Library in 2019 in a competitive public tender to conduct building condition assessments for 102 library facilities under the TPL jurisdiction. Bidders were invited to submit a quotation for architectural, building envelope, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical and lighting engineering, vertical transportation engineering, roofing, civil engineering and quantity surveying consulting services required to provide an indication of the present physical condition of the Library’s facilities The libraries ranged in age from heritage to newly constructed.

Building Condition Assessment & Feasibility Study – Gordon Brockington, Queens University

Queens University retained Cion Corp. to conduct a feasibility study for the Gordon Brockington House Student Residence. The six-storey, approximately 340,000 sq.ft. building was purpose built in 1964 to house approximately 425 students. Cion conducted a detailed assessment of all building systems including structural, mechanical, electrical and architectural. Using Uniformat Level II protocols, each major building component was assessed with descriptions, quantities, predictions of remaining service life and replacement life.

Building Envelope Feasibility Study – Wilson Subway Station, Toronto Transit Commission, Toronto ON

In collaboration with NORR, Cion was retained to provide a feasibility study (preliminary design review) that described the constraints of the construction project and provided three different design solutions. NORR provided senior review of the associated structural, electrical and mechanical systems. One major challenge was the logistics of replacing 300 concrete panels from a subway station that is operational 21.5 hours per day and is situated within one meter from the north and southbound Allen Expressway.

Building Condition Assessment – York Region Administration, Newmarket, ON

Cion was selected in 2018 in a competitive public tender to conduct building condition assessments for 68 facilities for the York Region Administration. These consisted of administrative offices, paramedic response stations, long term care facilities, roads operations and maintenance facilities, solid waste management facilities and mixed-use facilities. The facilities range in age from heritage to newly constructed. The four-year project is phased according to the needs of York Region.

Carnegie Library, St Mary's

Heritage Window and Roof Restoration – Town of St. Marys

Cion was retained in 2017 to conduct a detailed and intrusive investigation of the iconic Carnegie Library and Town Hall which were built in circa 1891. Both buildings are heritage designated and have been in continuous use as originally intended. Ongoing water damage and occupant comfort issues were the main drivers of the project.
