Cion is a Canadian employee-owned Building Science and Engineering firm.  For more than 25 years, we have been providing technical consulting to the commercial real estate, property management and facility management industry. Headquartered in Toronto, ON, our dedicated team of 40 professionals delivers services on a national basis with a focus on the assessment, renewal and rehabilitation of buildings and structures to achieve optimal performance.

We manage the phased cycle of requirements from the initial investigation and assessment to the remedial solutions including design specification, tendering and construction administration.  Our engineers and building scientists specialize in public, commercial, industrial, institutional and multi-unit residential properties.

Evan Shkolnik | President

As President of Cion, Evan is responsible for the strategic direction and operational performance of the company. Evan has leveraged his 25 years’ experience in the facility management / real estate industries to grow Cion into a multi-sector firm with national reach. Evan is currently a Board Member with the Canadian Condominium Institute, Huronia Chapter, and is committed to leading a talented group of engineering and building scientists providing high-level engineering consulting and real estate portfolio management services to clients nationwide.

Kevin Shaw, B.Tech.(Arch.Sc.) | Principal

Kevin was instrumental in launching the Cion Building Science Group and continues to be responsible for all operational aspects of the firm’s building science team. With over 25 years of experience in building evaluation and rehabilitation, Kevin is a recognized expert in: building envelope, failure investigations pertaining to the building envelope and structural components of buildings, design and project management of building rehabilitation projects, accessibility audits, performance audits and reserve fund studies. Kevin is on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Condominium Institute (CCI), Golden Horseshoe Chapter, and is actively involved in the advancement and education of the condominium industry.

Andrew Poirier I Principal

As Principal, Andrew focuses on expanding Cion’s presence in Canada’s Condominium community, building client relationships and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective results. Known for his approachable and responsive nature, Andrew provides clients with honest, informative guidance while maintaining integrity in every project. He is dedicated to integrating advanced technologies and approaches to optimize building performance and sustainability. With nearly two decades of professional experience and a background in design technology and building sciences, Andrew has extensive hands-on experience in site forensic leakage investigations, standardized testing and structural monitoring. His specialties include wall cladding assemblies, glazing systems, material compatibility, roofing systems and waterproofing sealants. Through his fieldwork, Andrew has delivered practical and safe solutions to complex building challenges, significantly contributing to the firm’s success in building envelope innovation. He is an active participant in the Canadian Condominium Institute (CCI) and the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO), as well as a condominium owner and President of his condominium’s Board of Directors.

Paul Frasie P. Eng., ASHRAE | Director Operations, Engineering

Paul is a big picture thinker who approaches every project in a holistic manner to meet sustainable performance objectives. As a founding member of the Sustainability Team, Paul is instrumental in identifying and implementing new technologies across building sciences, mechanical, electrical and structural engineering to manage system design. He is actively working on carbon neutral retrofit projects, where targeted strategies result in measurable reductions in energy consumption, carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. With more than 25 years of experience, Paul leads project teams across multiple sectors including multi-residential, condos, commercial and public buildings.
